[Novel Note] Chinese Clichés or Slang - Chacarters (ENG)

One of my favorite hobbies is reading novels, especially Chinese novels. Then in the story in Chinese novels, idioms or unique slang often appear in calling certain characters. Those idioms made me feel like wanting to collect them personally, either because it sounded funny and made sense or anything. Lol XD

So, here are idioms, slang, and others that are frequently mentioned in the novel:

Mary Sue (玛丽苏)/ Jack Sue (杰克苏)

The perfect picture for a character who has a brilliant mind. Their life journey is very smooth, both wealth, power, and fame easily fall in their hands. If they were a woman (Mary Sue), they would be infatuated by men, adored or hated by women. If they were a man (Jack Sue), many women would want to fall in his arms, many men envy or respect him.

Holy Mother (圣母)/ Holy Father

Representing the word justice, they often help strangers without remorse, forgive their enemies, and their 3 views include assuming that all people are equal, there is no such thing as evil, everyone initially has a good heart.

White Lotus Flower (白莲花)

Outward appearance looks pure, innocent, gentle, kind, and cheerful. That was the original intent of the 'White Lotus' idiom. Now, there is additional meaning. With the outer appearance as mentioned earlier, it's just that the appearance from the inside is the opposite.

Another image of the White Lotus, they like to make schemes such as pretending to be weak and crying easily just to get what they want. They may appear conscious or not aware at all, and consider it natural or right.

For example, White Lotus just realized that she likes her sister's boyfriend, but on the other hand, she doesn't think it should be. So she feels suffering, and the suffering is clearly visible to the person concerned, not hidden at all.

Not only that, she will feel hesitant to choose between her sister or continue to like her sister's boyfriend. It makes those in question, have a crack in their relationship. Until she gets what she wants, maybe she will continue to appear weak like a chicken. Lol XD

Green Tea Bitch (绿茶婊)

One word; Scheming Woman. It's a short meaning for 'Green Tea'. For more explanation, Green Tea can also be said as 'White Lotus' in the next level. Their selfishness is the same, but the way they go about getting what they want is very different. The rationality of the Green Tea is still online as they act.

For White Lotus, they may appear conscious or not aware at all, and consider it natural or right. As for Green Tea, they know it's not correct but don't care at all. With their brilliant mind, they would plan from A to Z. Take into account the positions, feelings, and actions taken by their opponents. There is no hesitation, even if their opponent is seriously injured or killed.

Black Belly (腹黑)

A spirit that loves revenge. *Cough*, I mean human. Initially, Black Belly was a nickname that was often used by villain characters. They appear friendly and kind, but in fact enjoy hurting or intimidating those they perceive as vulnerable.

For example, to other characters, including the main character. 'Black Belly' here is focused on the 'bullying' part. But lately, it is regularly used by characters who have a vengeful nature. Even a main character (aka MC) can be labeled as 'Black Belly'.

With just a little grievance, they will repay it 1000 times over. Even though they wanted revenge, it was actually enough to punish them. But those characters, labeled as Black Belly, hope to make their enemies 'want to die rather than suffer'. But unfortunately for their enemies, it's hard to get that wish once they get caught by such a character.

Rich Second-Generation (富二代)

A term for the children of rich people who like to use their family's money and background to play, eat, and drink. They themselves do not like to work or are lazy to work, and just want to live freely with the money that their family has.

Bear Child (熊孩子/毛小孩)

Bear Child = Mischievous Child. A nickname that is often used by teachers. Bear Child is also frequently associated with the Rich Second Generation.

Male God

A title given to an idol that is second to none. The title is made by fans. For example, the movie emperor, he has stood at the pinnacle of where his current profession can be achieved. Sometimes Male God can be linked to Jack Sue too. Rich, talented, handsome, and can beat his rivals easily.

Local Tyrant/Overlord

The most domineering and powerful characters in their own territory. Both in ability and background, they have full power in controlling anything.

Straight Man Cancer

Chauvinist. The man who thinks himself perfect, he is also stubborn, old-fashioned, and so on. In Danmei, they are the hardest man to bend, but also has the potential to become a scumbag. Lol XD

Single Dog (单身狗)

With very sincere honesty, Lazy admits that he belongs to the same group. Wuwuwu... *cry*

'Single Dog' = Single Status. People who temporarily do not have a romantic relationship or lover at all.

Little White Face (小白脸)

Someone who only depends on other people. The idiom is a bit similar to 'Rich Second Generation', only used by those with low background, aka gigolo.

White-Eyed Wolf

Someone who has no gratitude after being helped.

Supporting Character

Characters that appear only as tools/assistants for the protagonist's experiences.

Cannon Fodder

Characters that appear only as tools/assistants for the protagonist's experiences, quite similar to supporting characters, only they have a very sad ending, just like their name 'Cannon Fodder'.

Water Army/Navy

An army of netizens who are paid to change the direction of the wind or the situation. Sometimes these troops are also asked to become Zombie Fans. It can also be referred to as a paid supporter.

Eating Melon Seeds

Aka Passerby or those who just watched to see the fun.

Passerby Turn Fan

From the sentence, you can already guess. Those who just watched to see the fun changed their minds and became fans.

Fangirl/Fanboy

As is generally known. Fangirl/Fanboy is a nickname for someone who likes an idol.

Zombie Fans

Some public figures have many sincere followers. But few of them use Zombie Fans. That is the name for shadow followers, the fan's account is empty and only serves to increase the number of followers of certain public figures.

Black Fans

Haters of certain idols.

Fan Turn Black

Other idiom for haters, or rather fans who for some reason turned into haters. Which will be referred to as Black Fans.

Illegitimate Child
